We have been visiting Cala'n Porter for the past 10 years and decided to purchase our villa (Casa Bedino) when our immediate family moved out there for good 8 years ago. The main reason we love this part of Menorca is because.....
1) The resort has everything we need and is just the right size
2) It's just a 10-15 minute drive from Mahon Airport
3) If you don't want to hire a car you don't have to
4) The locals are friendly and most speak some or great English
5) There are many great Bars, Shops & Restaurants
6) The Beach is Beautiful, Safe & Clean.
7) By Menorcan standards is a lively Resort.
8) Most of the Villas on here are run by an English Villa Management Team.
Cala'n Porter is a very popular holiday destination for familys, couples or if you just want to get away from it all and relax in the sunshine. It is a mere 10-15 minute drive from Mahon Airport and very easy to find, there are many taxis waiting outside the airport ready to take you to your destination it costs about 15 euros by taxi.
The sandy Beach is accessed by road, small land train or steps and is set back in a cove ideal for smaller children with a park to play in and ample shallow area to paddle in. There's Food, Drink and toilets running along side it with a couple of gift shops too. You can hire pedalos, sun beds & umbrellas.
The Fun House is new to Cala'n Porter it has a soft play area for the kids with a Bouncy Castle, there's also games consoles, pool tables, table tennis & Air hockey for older children and of course an air conditioned Bar for the parents! This is located opposite The Castle Restaurant.
Of an evening there are many restaurants to choose from with great menus and quality inexpensive food. You can then go onto a karaoke bar or cocktail bar for a few more drinks but if you're still not tired make your way to the famous disco in the caves (Cove d'en Xoroi) which has weekly foam parties or is a lovely to visit in the day with stunning views of the meditteranian.
Cove d'en Xoroi
There are many Gift Shops & Supermarkets just a short walk away but if you're hot & bothered after a long day at the Beach delivery is available at a couple of the Supermarkets just give them your villa address and they will deliver to suit you (those bottles of Water can be heavy).
For children there are play areas in some of the restaurants but if you go to Siesta Mar 2 they have great food, drink and entertainment for the children day & night. They have discos, karaoke, 2 water slides & Pool for toddlers and older children (daytime only). All the children have a great time here. The Aloha bar is recommended with very friendly staff and a customery kiss and garland from the owner, they have a huge choice of cocktails served in a variety of wacky jars. You will find a variety of live entertainment here too.
There are also bars with Sky T.v For all you football fans, don't worry you won't miss a single match!
Visit the third weekend in September and witness the Fiesta with amazing Fireworks, costumes and men on horse back. In the town they will have stalls for you to win prizes and play areas for children and trampolines.
There's not much reason to leave Cala'n Porter but it is great if you can Hire a Car and see some of the other beautiful towns and beaches on the Island.
Top Tips for your stay
1) A steep flight of steps connects the main street to the beach - but once you have gone down, you do not have to climb back up - you could always come up in the land train instead.
2) There are two Cash points in the town and a currency exchange.
3) If you are not familiar with driving on the right I would recommend getting a taxi to Cala'n Porter then collecting your car from the town or even having your car delivered to your Villa.
4) Get your shopping delivered to your Villa, saves lugging those bottles of Water home.
5) They sell Island Maps in the town so grab one before you take off in the car so you don't waste you holiday getting lost!
6) Purchase Menorca Magazine, it has details on Boat trips, diving and the Aqua Parks.
